About Maine Coons

Nicknamed the "The Gentle Giant", the Maine Coon is the largest domesticated cat breed.

Valley View Cattery has chosen to breed these incredible cats because they are reputed for their intelligence, playful and gentle personality.

They possess above average intelligence, are known for being loyal to their family and cautious, but not mean to strangers, and are independent but love a dedicated cuddle and affection.

The Maine Coon is generally not known for being a "Lap Cat" but their gentle disposition makes the breed relaxed around dogs (the Maine Coon is often cited as having "dog like" characteristics) other cats and children.

They are characterized by a prominent ruff along its chest, robust bone structure, rectangular body shape, and uneven two layered coast with longer guard hairs over a silky satin undercoat and a long bushy tail.

It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, specifically native to the US states of Maine where it is the official state cat.

And is believed to be related to the Norwegian Forest Cat and the Siberian.

On average males weigh from 5.9 to 8.2kg with females 3.6 to 5.4kg. Their full size is normally not reached until they are three to five years old, while other cats take about one year.
